State Vessel
Adopted by the State Legislature of 1988, with the following stipulation:
If ownership of the schooner is transferred to any entity other than a non-profit corporation, or to any person, firm, or
organization located outside the state, or if the schooner is leased to any entity other than a non-profit corporation, the designation will be null and void.
Built on April 9, 1921, the Bowdoin has lived several lives.
The Bowdoin first cross the Arctic Circle on August 23, 1921. It sailed north with MacMillan a couple of dozen times, carrying scientists, adventurers, and students. On July 30, 1991, she made the trip again.
