The New Life Version
The New Life Version, produced by Gleason H. Ledyard, was first published as the Children's New Testament in 1966.
While serving as missionaries in northern Canada, Ledyard and his wife, Kathryn, worked among Eskimos who were just beginning to learn English. This experience encouraged them to develop an English translation for people learning English as a second language.
After translating and distributing a few books of the New Testament to various people, they were encouraged to market their translation for children. They completed their work, and Christian Literature International published the New Life Version of the entire Bible.
The New Life Version uses a limited vocabulary, and simplifies difficult Bible terms, making it a good choice for children and for adults learning English as a second language.
In the beginning God made from nothing the heavens and the earth. The earth was an empty waste and darkness was over the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was moving over the top of the waters. -- Genesis 1:1-2
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Whoever puts his trust in God's Son will not be lost but will have life that lasts forever. -- John 3:16
