Medical Research
At Shriners Hospitals for Children, medical research is having a tremendous impact on the care of children with orthopaedic and burn injuries. $24 million was budgeted for research alone in 2002, supporting a hundred research projects.
In addition to funding research, Shriners Hospitals maintain a fellowship program which serves to attract well
qualified doctors to service at a Shriners Hospital, to increase medical awareness and understanding of
orthopaedic and burn injuries in children, and to improve the capabilities of medical and surgical professionals
for dealing with these problems.
The staff at Shriners Hospitals realize that important work takes time, and are committed to a sustained
investment in clinically useful research into finding solutions and knowledge that will improve the quality of
life for children with orthopaedic and burn problems.
