A Walking Tour of Millinocket Stream

What is the curious thing snaking its way along the sandbar? Residents of the area tell me that it was a device called a sorbent boom that was used to absorb oil after an oil spill near the Central Street bridge several years ago. Apparently it was left in the stream, to drift south until it became lodged upon a sandbar.

Again, I’m not an expert, but shouldn’t it have been removed at some point?

We’ll look at it from a few different angles.
