A Walking Tour of Millinocket Stream

Eww .. I don’t think I want to go any closer than this. You tell me, is this anything to be afraid of?

According to the EPA, Penobscot County contains a portion of nine watersheds, six of which have serious water quality problems, with the other three showing less serious problems.

In 2000, Great Northern’s Millinocket mill released 445,781 pounds of toxins into the water. In the same year, its East Millinocket mill released 101,853 pounds of toxins. Releases included 170,001 pounds of suspected carcinogens. The above statistics include only legal and reported releases.
