A Walking Tour of Millinocket Stream

Zooming in closer still reveals very little. There’s green stuff growing on the sides, so how bad can it be? Even at this point in the stream, where it has been narrowed significantly, it is clear that the water levels are not as high as they once were.

Therein lies a part of the visible problems with Millinocket Stream. With the mill holding back water, the levels in the stream have been reduced significantly. This doesn’t produce pollution, but it brings it out in the open. Rapidly moving water, however cruddy, will usually look a lot better than the same water standing still.

The current water levels in the stream have revealed, not produced the problems that we are seeing.
