Anger

THE HIGH COST OF ANGER

So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him; and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, “Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?” -- Numbers 20:9-10

God has directed Moses to speak to the rock, so that it might bring forth water. Annoyed and perplexed by the continuous complaints coming from the children of Israel who were without water, Moses twice struck a rock with his rod.

His anger and disbelief cost him dearly. God denied Moses that which for so long he had cherished, the privilege of leading the people into the land of promise.

THE DEVIL’S FOOTHOLD

Be angry and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. -- Ephesians 4:26-27

Anger is one of the emotions that God has given us, yet a formula for healthy Christian living requires us to clear our minds and hearts of angry thoughts and malignant hatred before we retire for bed at night.

CLOSED DOORS

But he became angry, and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began entreating him. -- Luke 15:28

When the brother of the prodigal son heard the joyful music and dancing, he was angry and refused to go in, even after his father invited him to share in the festivities. Anger closes the doors that open to an abundant life.
