The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, by Alfred Edersheim
First published in the 1800s, this text remains the most important text on the life of Christ ever written. This classic work successfully portrays the streets, the marketplaces, the religious conflicts, the people, and the places of Jesus’ earthly ministry.

Old Testament Bible History, by Alfred Edersheim
While a student at Pacific Christian College, this was my textbook. Written from a Jewish Christian perspective, Edersheim gives the reader valuable insight into the history of Israel and its way of life, while linking it to God’s plan for salvation.

The Strongest Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, by James Strong
Actually, I use an earlier version that is no longer in print. Strong’s includes every word of the text of the English translation of the canonical books, and every occurrence of each word in regular order. For serious study, Strong’s is essential.

The Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, by Merrill C. Tenney
This encyclopedia includes over 1500 photographs and illustrations and nearly 300 maps. All information is cross-referenced and cited along with bibliographies and references to significant Greek and Hebrew words.

The Bible in Translation: Ancient and English Versions, by Bruce Manning Metzger
Written by a man who served on the translation committees for three versions, this is an excellent reference for students and others interested in Bible translation.
