A Walking Tour of Millinocket Stream

This is some nasty looking water. What could be in there?

Toxic chemicals discharged in the greatest amounts to the Millinocket Stream between 1990-1994 included 35,800 pounds of chlorine, 22,700 pounds of zinc compounds, 3,000 pounds of ammonia, 2,250 pounds of acetone, and 2,250 pounds of acetaldehyde. During this time, Millinocket Stream received 66,000 pounds of toxic chemicals, according to what was reported to the EPA, making it the seventh most polluted waterway in Maine. Among waterways receiving the greatest amounts of persistent toxic metals, Millinocket Stream ranked third.

Who said the mill hasn’t given back to the community?

Broken glass and ceramic on the banks of the stream.
