The following photographs were taken from the rural areas around but outside of Delta Lake, Edcouch, Elsa, La Blanca, La Villa, and Monte Alto.  Taken in March and April of 2001 and displayed in no particular order.

The Delta Area and most of the Lower Rio Grande Valley is intersected by a system of irrigation canals

To the right and below, are photographs of a canal that crosses FM-493 south of M 22 1/2-N, between La Blanca and Hargill.

While these close ups of a small area of the canal just east of the bridge appears attractive, the whole picture is not as pretty as the close up.

Swimming in the irrigation canals is discouraged, yet each year there are deaths from drowning, mostly of children. Although they appear docile and quiet, strong currents move the water along.
