The following photographs were taken from the rural areas around but outside of Delta Lake, Edcouch, Elsa, La Blanca, La Villa, and Monte Alto.  Taken in March and April of 2001 and displayed in no particular order.

Although cockfighting is illegal in the State of Texas and throughout the United States, it continues to be a popular form of entertainment.

Citrus is a major crop in the Delta Area, as it is throughout the Lower Rio Grande Valley. This orange grove is found along FM-88 just north of Delta Lake Park.

Another big crop in the Rio Grande Valley is sugar cane.  This cane field is located on M 4-W, south of Hwy 107.

For those of us not profiting from the sugar cane market, the burning of the cane fields every year is a common source of irritation and respiratory complaints.
